At Tacos we encourage all farmers to farm with only first grade Day old Chicks , whether you buy chicks from Tacos or another supplier do not jeopardize your farming activity by using sub-standard Day Old Chicks.
Tacos acquires day old chicks from hatcheries which are then each reared for 34 days on average prior to slaughter. Trish Poultry broilers grow app. 700,000 broilers every 7 weeks for Daybreak Farms, with whom we have a production contract. The chickens are raised in 22 area environmentally controlled houses, which are monitored with computers. The broiler houses were all upgraded in 2012/2013 from open sided (naturally ventilated houses) to environmentally controlled houses for improved production and increased densities. A total of 7.5 cycles are completed each year, during which each 2,100 tons of feed is consumed. Performance is closely monitored and adjustments made when required to either management or nutrition.

Point Of Lay Chicken/ Layers
Layer Hen Rearing
We rear our won pullets from day-old chicks to point of lay.Rearing of pullets occurs over 17 weeks (some four months). We believe that good management during the rearing period can assure that the point of lay subsequently reaches the laying house in optimal condition to successfully deliver eggs. Since 2013 Tacos Poultry is producing their own point-of-lay pullets, production is enough that no pullets are bought in. Approximately 30% of our point-of-lay hens are sold to external customers. Amberlink and Hy-line are the two breeds that are used which gives satisfactory results. Both cage and floor rearing are used, where cage rearing is suitable for commercial layer production systems and floor rearing suits the free-range market better. Tacos Poultry has a high welfare standard where we follow the Five Freedoms of animal welfare as outlined by the World Organisation of Animal Health. The SAPA standards are also used to ensure optimal [production. The Rearing Unit prides itself by having close collaboration between our consulting Veterinarian, Production Manager, Farm Manager and Nutritionist. |
